Philippians: Joy from the Depths

Having joy in our day seems to require the impossible. Ignore the world around us, and rejoice, or see the world around us, and lament. How do we have joy in the midst of it all? Paul was well acquainted with this dilemma. He wrote this thank-you letter to the churches in the city of Philippi — from a jail cell. He writes it to remind the church then and the church now that we can find joy in the midst of a joyless, hectic, disappointing world that never satisfies because of and through Jesus. This is not a joy born out of ignorance or delusion, but a joy born out of life in Christ. We invite you to consider these things with us as we study this well known and beloved letter through the eyes of its author and aims, that we can experience joy from the depths, even in the depths of life.
